School Surveys

The Stanford Survey of Adolescent School Experiences is an online survey that measures middle and high school students’ perspectives on homework, extracurricular activities, sleep, physical health, stress, parent expectations, academic engagement, academic integrity, and teacher support. Over 70,000 students from more than 100 schools have taken the survey since 2009, and schools have gained a great deal of information from the results, including what students see as stressful and challenging as well as sources of support within the school. Survey findings help to guide schools in their decisions about which policies and practices may be effective and which are in need of improvement.

The survey has approximately 70 questions and takes students between 30-40 minutes to complete. The survey results are anonymous and kept confidential; students are not asked to provide their names, and they can opt out of answering any or all questions. Once all consenting students have taken the survey, the school notifies Challenge Success staff, who analyze the data, organize the results, and send a comprehensive report after approximately 6 to 8 weeks.

We offer different survey packages depending on your preference for depth and breadth of the report as well as the consultants who speak with you after you receive the results. Please note that the prices below are for one survey implementation. If your school would like to survey both the middle and high schools, this is considered two separate surveys. Prices for any additional analyses of survey data that are not included in the original survey report will be determined based on specific requests.

  • Basic Package includes set-up and assistance administering one online survey, analysis of the quantitative data (i.e., questions that require the student to circle or choose an answer), a written report summarizing the quantitative data, and a post survey call report summarizing recommended next steps. (Students’ responses to the three qualitative (or written response) questions on the survey will be emailed to the school in an excel spreadsheet if requested but will not be analyzed or summarized in the report.) This package also includes a 45-minute consultation about the results in the quantitative report with Research Director, Dr. Sarah Miles, and School Program Director, Margaret Dunlap. Cost: $2750
