Understanding the ABCs of Engagement So That All Learners Can Succeed
Research shows that engagement in learning is a critical component of student success. Not only does it allow for deeper learning, it is a predictor of student achievement. Engagement with learning has been shown to prevent dropout, promote student attendance, and lead to fewer disciplinary issues. And, students who are engaged in school are more likely to pursue lifelong learning. This “quick guide” resource is designed for school and district leaders and educators who want to deepen their understanding of student engagement and explore how they might improve it in their communities. Drawing on 20+ years of Challenge Success-Stanford research, we outline the ABCs of engagement along with indicators and self-reflection prompts to help K-12 educators identify their community’s strengths and opportunities for improvement.
